In just ten weeks, the world’s largest climate change summit is taking place in Belém, Brazil: the United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP30.
COP30 will bring countries together to present new national climate action plans, review climate finance pledges and negotiate pathways to limit global warming. Governments will set out how they will accelerate the net zero transition as leaders, scientists and communities work together to drive real-world progress.
For us, the conference is especially significant – it marks one year since REnew Pacific was officially launched in the Australian Pavilion at COP29 in Azerbaijan! At the event, Minister Bowen announced Australia’s $75 million investment through REnew Pacific to support the Pacific transition away from fossil fuels, improve energy security, benefit from the global transition to renewable energy and drive climate-resilient development in remote communities.
To celebrate, we’ll be sharing stories about the impact of our REnew Pacific projects so far, along with earlier pilots through the Business Partnership Platform’s Off-Grid Renewable Energy Partnerships. These projects are locally-led, inclusive and delivering clean energy where it’s needed most.
They are all part of the Pacific Climate Infrastructure Financing Partnership (PCIFP), a $350million initiative for climate infrastructure in the region delivered by the Australian Government’s Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) and implemented by Palladium.
Together, these stories will highlight how Australia is helping bring clean energy and essential services to some of the region’s most remote off-grid communities, powering homes, schools, health centres, community centres, water, sanitation and so much more.
Follow along each week as we share a new story on the road to Belém!
